Acid based violence was criminalized through an amendment in Pakistan Penal Code Act XLV of 1860 and Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 and was entitled as the Criminal Law Amendment Act 2011 (Second Amendment). The subject amendment however does not take into account the following:
- Provisions regulating the Government run facilities to provide medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation of victims.
- Provision of legal aid and related costs towards the rehabilitation of the survivors of the heinous crime
- Monitoring of the crime through an organized monitoring system
It is for this purpose that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women proposes the enactment of a Comprehensive Legislation for Acid and Burn Control in the Province to address the monitoring of crime and rehabilitation of acid and burn survivors in the Province
The subject consultation discussed key features of the proposed draft in order to build consensus among stakeholders building upon suggestions of the participants from an earlier consultation held in this regards on Friday 30th January 2015 in Shelton Guest Hose Abdara Road University Town Peshawar
